The combined flows of the Burrungubugge and Gungarlin aqueducts empty into a surface de-aeration tank. Each aqueduct pipeline drains over a vee notch meter with the gauge level correlated to a flow rate in cumecs and logged by equipment in the recorder house. The water becomes aerated so is diverted to the NW end of the tank where it surges 6 m to the surface losing its air. It then flows across the top of the tank to the SE end where the trashrack traps any large logs.
A single 1.83 m diameter siphon then transfers the water 135 m below ground level into the Eucumbene - Snowy tunnel. The water may flow NE into Lake Eucumbene for storage or SW to
Island Bend to join the Snowy-
Geehi tunnel which feeds
Geehi Reservoir and the
Murray 1 Power Station.
Access to the intake tank is by foot or pushbike from a
locked gate about 400 m south. A further 1.3 km stroll through some interesting
granite country scenery will reach the
Gungarlin Diversion Weir.
