Constructed in the modernist style from 1962 to 1967 with the first generator operating in 1966. The pipelines carry 240 cumecs in total and range from 11 to 38 mm in thickness. This water falls through a head of 460 m giving each generator a rated output of 95 MW. Most of this water is diverted from the
Snowy river and will in a given year add an extra 1000GL to the flow of the Murray to irrigate valuable cropland. The electricity joins the
grid connecting all eastern states with M1 able to generate in just a few minutes from start up.
