North Head is a speccy
limestone headland reachable by a reasonable 4WD track (no trailers). It offers superb
views south to Jurien and is
home to the Bartle memorial. Bob Bartle was killed by a tiger shark while spearfishing in 1967.
You used to be able to drive practically to the head itself, and to a delightful little sheltered bay on the north side; however, irresponsible 4WD’ing has led to a massive dune blow-out (see GoogleEarth image
pic) and the only way to get out there now is via ‘shanks’ pony’ from a
parking area to the east of the sand. On your way to
North Head (to the blow-out) you will pass a couple of WWII concrete bunkers.
On calm days
North Head is a great snorkelling spot.
