Grigsons
Lookout is approx 6 kms north of
Jurien Bay on the Indian Ocean Drive in Mt Lesueur National Park. It offers excellent
views over the chain of coastal lakes stretching from just north of the
Coolimba area to just north of Jurien. These lakes are usually dry in summer but some have perennial seepages, particularly on their eastern margins as at Lake
Leeman.
The name celebrates
John Grigson. Settlement in the district viewed to the east dates from the 1850s when Walter Padbury took up land. His nephew
John Grigson managed the property immediately to the east of the
Lookout, and with the successful development of sheep grazing in the area generally, a jetty for the embarkment of same was constructed at
Jurien Bay in 1885.
