We are planning to go August/Sept, the
flinders ranges up to
Birdsville via Innaminka and then down the
Birdsville track around Lake Eyre on the
Oodnadatta Track, and on up to
Alice Springs and across to
Boulia via the
Plenty Highway.
Would appreciate any info on road conditions and good
camp sites. Will be towing a camper trailer.

Hi Laurie
Just got back from a similar trip two days ago,
Cameron corner, Innaminka,
Birdsville,
Marree, Lake Eyre,
Coober Pedy, back to
Marree, Finders ranges,
Broken Hill,
Darling river run to
Bourke,
Lightning Ridge and
home to Sunshine coast.
All roads found to be good and reasonably
well graded although that may change in a month or two's time as a lot of people are now heading to these regions. Camping spots-
Wilpena Pound resort in the Flinders was great, Innaminka,
camp along the
Cooper Creek, fantastic bird life and nice camping spots, you'll need to buy the passes from the Innaminka trading post first though. The best place to see Lake Eyre if you're not taking a flight is the Lake Eyre South viewing area about 100kms west of
Marree, here you can walk to the waters edge, the track to the lake from
William creek is very long and rough and you're still a long way from the water. Oodnatta track is seeing a lot of traffic and is rough in sections.
Enjoy your trip
Jon

Plenty Highway.
Cheers

Hi there We just got back from a very similiar trip. There were 3 vehicles in our group 2 with off road camper trailers and the other vehicle towed and off road caravan. The plenty road rough and corrugated for approximatly 100km west of Jervois
Homestead. After Jervois and past the Qld border were OK. If you take care and drive to the conditions you will be OK. Some areas have had a
grader over them. Jervois
Homestead is good and cheap. Another place we camped was on the Georgina River west of
Boulia some good
camp sites on the eastern side of the
bridge.

Boulia there is another
good camp site on the Georgina River just near
Marion Downs station. We cought a few red claw there. We found the
Birdsville Track and the Oonadatta track quite good but bear in mind you will be travelling a lot later in the season. Just a hint take your time to indulge in the history of the Oonadatta track.
Coward Springs are a definate must as a
camp site. Happy travelling Greg & Di
