Designated
penguin rookery with a board walk of steps that take you to the top of the mountain for great
views over the isthmus. Before the
European settlement of
Bruny Island, Truganinni inhabited Lunnawannalonna (
Bruny Island).
The steps lead to the
lookout and memorial to the Nuenonne people and provide boardwalks and viewing platforms where you can observe the short-tailed shearwaters and the fairy penguins.
During peak summer tourist season, visitors can meet rangers for guided walk to view penguins in their natural habitat. The best time for viewing the fairy penguins are from September to February.
