Penguin is the second largest town in the Central Coast Council area, second to
Ulverstone. It has a
population of around 3,500 and is an easy drive from
Devonport of Burnie/Wynyard. It is on the coast with a good beech that is fringed by the waters of Bass Strait.
The town has a good commercial centre with most facilities that a holiday maker would want. Like many Tasmanian towns, it has its share of historic buildings the Uniting Church that is in the main street which was completed in 1903. Near the centre of town an old stand alone telephone kiosk has been turned into a small branch of the local library.
