Forrest is a remote railway stopping place on the
Nullarbor Plain, 85 km west of the Western Australia / South Australia state border, established in 1916 during construction of the Trans-Australian Railway. It is on the part of the railway that is the longest – at 478.193 kilometres (297.135
miles) – stretch of straight railway line in the world.Visitors are welcome however the drive from
Eucla to
Forrest is very rough and slow going - expect to travel about 30km/hr and take 5 hours by taking it easy to avoid punctures on the sharp
limestone track. Self contained cottages are available or stay in the camping areas under shady trees and also at the old Met Office where bathroom, kitchen and Museum are located. See Nearby Place listing for accommodation details. For courtesy, please call ahead to let them know of your arrival and your needs.
