Guilderton is styled as being where The Moore River meets the Indian Ocean. It has excellent fishing and swimming opportunitis and is an ideal day visit from
Perth, or for IOD travellers, a short sojourn to a very scenic spot.
Guilderton is a small coastal town north of
Perth, Western Australia at the mouth of the Moore River in the Shire of Gingin. The town is a popular holiday destination also referred to as Moore River. The river mouth regularly opens and closes depending on the seasons, and alternates between being a closed lagoonal estuary or being tidal. The ‘breaking' of the bar is always a 'greatly looked forward to' phenomenon.
The area has been used as a camping and
recreation spot since 1905 when the residents of nearby Gingin petitioned for a road to be constructed to the area. Guilderton was declared as a
recreation area in 1907. Apart from caravan park accommodation and limited merchant facilities, there are few facilities; however this is
well and truly made up by Guilderton’s ambience.
Guilderton’s
lighthouse was the last brick tower style
lighthouse built in Australia.
