Dampier is a major industrial port in the north-west of Western Australia. The Dampier Port is part of the Dampier Archipelago. The port
services petrochemical, salt, iron ore and natural gas export industries.
Red Dog was a Kelpie/Cattle Dog cross born in Paraburdoo in 1971, and died on November 20th , 1979.
He became a real character throughout the
Pilbara during the next 9 years. He was known to have traveled to Roebourne,
Point Samson,
Port Hedland,
Broome,
Tom Price and
Perth. His amazing homing instinct saw him always returning to
Karratha or Dampier. A statue of Red Dog can be found at
the entrance to the town of Dampier.
