Maydena is at the end of the old 3'6" railway which connected the Tyenna Valley. It is the same track that serviced the
Mount Field National Park in its early days.
Maydena was a timber town and also had a Osmiridium
mine the ore from which was shipped via the railway. It is also an important stop on the way to Strathgorden and would have received a boost from the traffic generated by the
dam building project.
