Information

This inland lake is at an elevation of 1109m and accessible via the Mount Field East walking track in Mount Field National Park. It is a very pleasant spot with a good vista. It takes about 10 minutes from the main track which in turn is about 20 minutes from the Lake Dobson Road. The tarn is named after John Watt Beattie (1859 - 1930) who was a passionate hiker and photographer. A seat made of a log cut in half lengthways is used as a seat known as "Beatties Seat" which offers hikers a spot to rest overlooking the peaceful view at the waterside just as he used to enjoy many years ago. An information sign board here tells the story.
