Mount Field National Park is just a little over 70 kilometres from
Hobart. The
Visitor Centre is on Lake Dobson Road, a couple of kilometres from the right hand turn from Lake
Gordon Road into the park. It contains a wide range of visitor facilities including information and permit sales, a cafe and the Curiosity Room. Nearby are picnic facilities including barbecues and a
camping area is located just over the road. There is even a recharge point for anyone who arrives there by electric car.
Mount Field is one of the oldest national parks in Tasmania and is quite large at 163 sq km. From the
visitor centre a short wheelchair friendly walk leads to the
well known
Russell Falls. The path then leads on to a tall forest area. Further into the park are mountains, lakes winding roads and
walking tracks with both long and short walks.
