The original Australian hotel was formally known as Howard hotel the first Australian hotel was owned by WF cornfield and sold to JP Howard in 1883. The Howard family also owned the
royal hotel. The Shire Council purchased the Australian hotel in 1959 and then built a two story building on site Shire Council continued to run the Australian hotel until 1991 then it was subsequently least after the lease expired.
