Point Cartwright stands at the end of a short peninsula that forms the Eastern bank of the
Mooloolaba River. At its highest point is a light house, a modern structure, that protects this area of the coast and marks
the entrance to the river located a few hundred metres to the west.
Suburbia extends to the
lighthouse reserve with high rise apartment blocks overlooking the car park from which a short paved path leads to the
lighthouse. Expansive
views, both north and south, are available from the
vantage point of
the summit as are ships waiting to enter Moreton Bay that can normally be seen anchored towards the horizon. There is a good view of the river mouth and the main commercial and holiday area of
Mooloolaba.
The streets leading to the point provide access to the river and to surfing and bathing beaches, as
well as to the residential areas.
