Circular Quay is located
Sydney Cove and was the site of the initial landing of the First Fleet in
Port Jackson on 26 January 1788. As
well as being such an historic site it is a major transport hub. It is the base for many ferry
services that radiate to many parts of
Sydney Harbour and hosts the main cruise ship terminal in
Sydney.
It is located to the north of the centre of
Sydney and lies between the
Sydney Opera House to the east an the
Sydney Harbour Bridge to the west. Circular Quay rail station is part of the city rail loop which provides rail access to the City and the extensive suburban area.
The quay area is always busy with travellers rushing between ferry and train, tourists experiencing this part of the city, diners heading for the numerous eating houses and buskers and other performers entertaining the ever moving throng.
The history is that of the fledgling colony of New South Wales which had its beginnings on that harbour shore.
