Koorawatha is a town in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia, on the Olympic Highway between Cowra and
Young. The name Koorawatha is derived from the Wiradjuri dialect meaning "place of Pine Trees". The town was once a large and thriving centre of activity but now has only a hotel and a cafe. Koorawatha’s history includes a notable gun battle that took place in 1864 between bushrangers and the police at the Bang Bang Hotel.
The nearby Illunie Range, contains the Koorawatha
Nature Reserve, an area known for the Koorawatha Falls and diverse bird life and bush walks. The Koorawatha Falls are located about 4km from the highway, accessible with care along a 4WD track.
Accommodation is available at the Koorawatha Hotel, which also offers free caravan/camping sites.
