Lyndhurst is a small village, 42km NE of Cowra NSW.
In the late 1800s / early 1900s,
Lyndhurst once served as a major supply centre for the nearby
Junction Reef goldfields.
In 1895,
the Junction Reefs
Dam was constructed on the Belubula River for a turbine to generate power to service commercial mining operations.
The cement
dam at the time was deemed to be the most distinctive in NSW, and the first multiple-arch
dam in Australia..
The
dam held approx. 540 million gallons and backup up the Belubula River approx 1 mile.
Mining included gold, copper, silver, nickel, molybdenum, cobalt, iron, barite and even some uranium.
In 1908, the township was once shortlisted for a proposed site for our National Capital.
