Walgett is a small town in north-central New South Wales, located at
the junction of the Barwon and Namoi rivers and near
the junction of the Kamilaroi and Castlereagh Highway. Fishing in the Barwon is popular with murray cod, yellowbelly being the main catch. Walgett is a regional hub for the wool, wheat and cotton industries. It is also the gateway to the New South Wales opal fields, with
Lightning Ridge an hour north. There are no commercially operated caravan parks in town, however there is a 48 hr
free camp at the
Apex Park and an RV site at the Showground (fees apply). A little out of town to the north there are free camps on the Barwon River.
