Historically, this is the site of a
native well used by the aboriginals in the area. However, in 1962 the French Petroleum Company dug out the
well site and bulldozed the surrounding area in hope of tapping into a permanent
water supply for their survey work without having to return to
Birdsville. Despite this, the area is still worth visiting and you will see evidence of early occupation. From this site, you can pick up the track to the east that will meet up with the K1. Or head north for the site of the old
beachcomber oil well site or south and back to the QAA line and
Birdsville.
