Within a few kilometres we turn onto
the Bluff Link Road, again another
well maintained gravel road that takes you deeper into the high country, the scenery becoming majestic as the rugged ramparts of
Mount Eadley Stoney and
The Bluff towered above us. For 10 kilometres the road winds and climbs along the range to a highpoint reaching
the Bluff Track which spears off to the east. This is the first of the gated tracks within the Alpine region that are closed from June through to late October. The wind blasted alpine gums leave you in no doubt that your are travelling a ridge-top track and within a kilometre you arrive at one of the High Country’s most iconic huts –
Bluff Hut.
Situated on a saddle in the ridge,
the hut is often blasted by frigid winds Tin hut was built by the Stoney family in 2008 to replace the original 1950’s that was destroyed by fire in 2007.
The hut is a haven for walkers on
the Bluff and Mt Howitt Tracks and its rustic interior, fire place and rough sawn timber tables and sleeping benches providing a respite from the elements. Camping is also available in the gums nearby or in the cleared horse paddock that is fenced with rough hewn timber post and rail fences.
