Information

During 1850 a group of Scottish people moved into the White Hut area near Clare.

In 1853 HMS Hercules arrived at Port Adelaide carrying additional immigrants sponsored by the Highland and Island Emigration Society.

One of the new settlers was John McAskill from North Uist, Western Isles, Scotland. In 1860 he set aside this land as a Private Cemetery for Hercules families.

This cemetery is wholly maintained by their descendants.
