Go with the Brand Hazz.
Indian Ocean Drive would take about half an hour longer, mainly due to limited overtaking space.
Cheers

Depends on where you live, if you live anywhere along the coast, take IOD, if you are in the Eastern suburbs then stick with the Brand H/way. We live in the hills and took the IOD just to have a look, took us ages longer but was worth the drive.

Indian Ocean drive is only faster if you are coming from the freeway/
Joondalup direction.
Overtaking isnt a problem as the road is generally very quiet - heavy vehicles arent allowed on the IOD.
In the afternoons if there is a southerly it seems stronger along the IOD and there is often a lot of sand spraying across the road midway up. Its quite scenic in the last few kilometres (northern end) and does pass through/near the coastal towns which if you havent visited before are worth dropping into.
cheers

Depends on where you start! From Wanneroo way , it takes ~45 minutes off the journey to
Jurien Bay, normally a 2:45 trip for me (only got back yesterday - its my 3rd time on this road in 2 months). However, from Jurien to the Brand Hwy via the coast road, there are limited overtaking
places but also minimal traffic. IMHO its quicker to use the new road to Jurien and then stay on the coast road until you meet up with the Brand Hwy.

MRD advise me that the distances from Gero PO to
Perth GPO are as follows:
Via Brand 427 kays.
Via IOD 415 Kays.
Going or coming from north and in a hurry, definitely the Brand - particularly now that probably at least 80% of the caravans are now displacing to the IOD.
But for a leisurely scenic drive, def. the IOD, particularly the
Cervantes to
Lancelin stretch which is a stunner of a road.
The section from
Yanchep to
Lancelin is underengineered and crappy, but with major improvements happening. Downside is the works delays.
Cheers.
