Cervantes is a mid size (
population about 500) coastal town off Indian Ocean Drive, twenty kilometers south of the mid west coast regional centre of
Jurien Bay. It is named after a wreck nearby which in turn was named after Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote.
The principal commercial activities are
rock lobster fishing and tourism; the latter profiting particularly from the nearby
Pinnacles Desert -
Nambung National Park.
Lake Thetis with its
stromatolites is also nearby. Cervantes lies off the
Jurien Bay Marine Park.
