Camping in the Brindabella ranges

I have been told of a good camping site in or around the Brindabellas,by the name of Lowells Flat, or Lovells Flat. Not having any luck locating it on the map. Can anyone help with directions, or suggest another location in that area, preferably close to the river, and 4x4 access.

Michael!! There is good camping there in a few spots but the camp spots within those areas can be close together and they can fill up fast, leaving you high and dry!!! You really need to get there early on the weekends, Friday is best but could be very hard to find a good spot now being in the main holiday season.. You would need to know where you are going to camp with a spot saved for you at this time of the Year. Good Luck! Michael

Flea Creek, MacIntyres Hut or Brindabella would all be suitable, but could be pretty busy right now.

Was down there 3 weeks ago. Flea Creek has a long drop but McIntyre Hut has no facilities apart from the hut. There was a flat just near McIntyres Hut which was nice but I can't rememember the name. Also no facilities but a large area.

Thanks for all the replies. We are fully self contained, so have no problem with areas that don't have facilities.
It sounds like the area around McIntyres hut has the best
posibilities, so we may head there, and see how busy it is !!

The trailer is packed, we'll be off first thing tomorrow.

Hi

We had a great 5 days down there. There are plenty of interesting fire trails to try, some we went down obviously hadn't had much use for quite a while.
Although we tried several ways, we were never able to find our way down to McIntyres Hut. Even with the local Hema map loaded onto our computer, it just wouldn't happen. The fact that we all had Camper trailers on the back made the going tough on a few of the trails, eg Gentle Annie , so we just found other places to go.
The best camp we had was along the Broken Cart trail, actually in the Kosciusko NP. Babbling brook beside us, and visited by wild Brumbies. There are a couple of boggy patches along the way so watch out for the best line

Cheers

Michael

Head down to Mc Intyres hut and the last left on the way down approx 0.5 kms before the hut is Lowells Flat Trail and that will take you to Lowells Flat. The track is well cut into the bank as you go down along the mountain.
