hi all,

I am sitting in an internet booth at the hotel we're staying at in Belmont/Ascot Perth and the kids and I have been enjoying ourselves. The weather has been wet, but that hasn't stopped us, infact, the other day when it really started to pour, Callum and Tegan both did a little dance in Hay Street in celebration! We've enjoyed walking around the city, been to the MINT, been down to the Sth West corner, Busselton Jetty and Margaret River and today out to AQWA. Tomorrow we will hopefully do a tram tour and Thurs a trip down the Swan river to Freo...meanwhile Al works...lol..I think we might be exploring the Swan Valley on Saturday and Sunday is Callum's birthday so perhaps out to Whiteman Park.

So far, it's been great, have caught up with my godmother...and have travelled on many buses....got a week and a bit to go, plenty more to see..have tried to talk the kids into a tour of the WACA [being the cricket tragic I am] but so far they haven't been keen...I wonder why!

We went to Lake Cave on the weekend, 336 steps down into the earth, which was ok, until you have to come back up, and by about stair 150 I was starting to hurt, the kids of course raced up with no probs.

Hi Lyn,

It's a great corner of the world isn't it?
Have you discovered the Red and Blue line buses yet?

Good to see you are enjoying yourselves despite the hard work Al is putting in.
Don't tire yourselves out:-)

Hiya

yep know about the blue and yellow and red busses, great idea, when I was here in the early 90s the busses were the colour of their routes, now you have to strain your eyes to make sure you're on the correct ones.

cheers

Hi Lyn
The Perth Zoo is probably worth a visit
You can get the bus into the city and walk down to the Barrack Street Jetty and get the ferry to South Perth and walk to the Zoo

Also if the weather improves and you have transport, the Hillarys Boat Harbour is worth a visit. Also AQWA - Aquarium at Hillarys

Hi Trekkie,

might leave the zoo til later in the year, we will probably be back then, I have been there many years ago and I know it's well worth the visit, first place I'd ever seen zoo poo for sale.

Went to Hillarys yesterday to AQWA by public transport, my god what a trek..haha.. probably wasn't that far, but 2 busses and a train was a big journey for the kids, and my 80 year old god mother who was our guide.

Lake Cave was just brilliant. I hope the water was still in it as the reflections were just great when we saw it in 2005. We did all three caves in one day Jewel Cave, Lake Cave and Mammoth Cave. Have to admit was caved out by the third one and the body was showing signs of not being fit enough. We then camped a couple of days at Conto to get over the exercise.

Hi Robyn

Lake cave was fantastic, still water there, though they're getting concerned as the level is dropping, i did jewel and mammoth back in the 90s when i was here, and felt that the kids probably wouldn't handle 3, especially when they'd climbed all those steps at Lakes.

cheers

WHAT YOU HAVEN'T VISITED THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go to the Hillary's P.O. and wait for someone to clear Box 967 and follow them back to their office. I'm sure they'd make you welcome. LOL
Have a great time. Perhaps a boat trip out to Rotty would keep the kids amused.

Hello Lyn, great report - makes me want to be there. Look at all the nice invitations you've received (not sure about Des Lexic tho - you know what he's like). Love to the kids and big kisses for Callum on Sunday. Poor Al - having to do work - take him out at the weekend and let him play 4bys. Ruth

G'day GG. How come everyone I know on here picks on me.
Just because I look like an undersized runt, it doesn't mean I'm easy pickings. LOL

I hope you get rained in at Birdsville and can't make it to Waraweena.

Lyn, that six years has gone very quickly. Poor Al - no 4by (and only a bommodore), good news Delaer rang yesterday and our new V8 ute is ready for us to pick up on Tuesday - been getting diff locks, extra long/wide tray and extra power points for the grog fridges/beer. Ian can't wait he want to be able to blow off all the other cars at the lights. He's a bit bored this week. LOL

Hi Lyn, if you've got a hire car check out the Hills Harvest Festival in the Bickley Valley this weekend. Good wineries and local produce. Weather should be fine as well. Compact area so easily accessible, also the Observatory should be open (on Walnut Rd) & is just up the road from a good winery that serves a good ploughmans lunch.
