The
Busselton Jetty is a major feature of the town of
Busselton. It currently stands at 1841 metres in length making it the longest wooden piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.
Because
Geographe Bay faces north, the sun does not set directly out into the ocean; it sets in the west over the
Cape Naturaliste area. The extensive
views for
miles and
miles across
Geographe Bay to the sunset is simply spectacular.
The iconic blue boat-shed style huts along the jetty are where you'll find the gift
shop, Museum and ticket office for those wanting to catch the train out to the end of the jetty.
The Museum is
well worth a look - learn about the colourful history of the 153 year old Jetty through two interactive timelines on wall touch screens with three centuries worth of images, videos and stories, many of which have been contributed by the community. A touch table enables users to select and see the visual changes to the Jetty structure and length from the 1800’s to 2000’s. The Museum is open 7 days a week and entry is free.
At the far end of the jetty and 8 metres underwater is the Underwater Observatory. Access to the is only possible if you've booked a tour, which depart on the hour from the Interpretive Centre (at the base of the Jetty) and take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete. Book your ticket online, visit the booking office in the Interpretive Centre or phone us on 9754 0900.
