Rush hour at Birdsville

Returned last night from a flight up to
William Creek and
Birdsville to see the effects of recent water. I’m no expert in such matters but the water over the
Birdsville track would suggest its going to remain closed for some time. We are wanting to travel the
Hay and
Madigan Line toward the end of May so the main interest for us lies in the State of Eyre Creek. Basically it looked good and has been crossed in the last few days. There is however a large body of water coming down Eyre Creek which is only days away so hopefully it will pass quickly and dry up? Time will tell. From the air the areas surrounding
Birdsville are lush and green just like s carpet, magic to see!! We’ll rely on updates from the
Birdsville PoIice as to the state of Eyre Creek a week before we leave just to be safe. I have attached a few photos of
Birdsville I took yesterday, very quiet you may say!!

Looks great I have not seen it so green for while BBBBUT where are all the cars 4 wheel drives never seen
Birdsville so bare always full of vehicles when I have been there.

Surrounding floodwaters would have roads cut off still I'd assume....watched video footage atop Big Red on
Birdsville Bakery Facebook page today, looks like the flies will outnumber tourists for a while now, one downside to all that much needed rain.

From information supplied by
Birdsville Police, Toni, the only road open is the one through
Windorah. The Diamantina is currently around Durrie Station, so will no doubt cut the
bridge again near town, in the coming weeks.
The road north is still cut at
Glengyle, King Ck &
Marion Downs.
Birdsville Track is also inundated at present too.
The QAA Line is still open, but Eyre Ck is heading into Adria Downs at the moment, so there will be some hold ups that way in coming weeks.

Birdsville is going to be pretty quiet for a while! Wouldn't mind some of that water in my neck of the woods, it's dry as chips here. Toni
