Operated by Inverell council, this
campground shares its access (via boom
gate) with the closest
boat ramp to town and is popular with locals for morning and evening fishing, or family day trips. There are 2 main areas - the upper area from
the entrance is set high above the
dam offering great
views right from the boom
gate and office and amenities where the powered caravan/camping sites are situated. A sealed road through this area (with speed bumps) leads downhill to the
boat ramp and unpowered camping areas at the waterfront. This is just one of two popular and highly regarded
camp grounds offering visitors access to stay and enjoy everything that
Copeton Dam has to offer. (See Copeton Holiday Park for the other). Copeton Northern Foreshores is just a 20km drive from Inverell, known to locals as Copeton North (to distinguish between what is now the Reflections Copeton Holiday Park). Major recent upgrades to the
camp ground and its amenities may make you think you are staying in a commercial caravan park with a huge, modern water play park for the kids to enjoy on a hot day, plus paved bike tracks for them to get there and zoom around. This water park and bike track area is cleverly tucked away from on the other side of a
hill away from the main powered sites so that you don't even realise its there. At the top of the
hill and in the middle area nearest to amenities is the powered
camping area - suitable for large caravans, or camper trailers with flat sites and
views over the
dam. Scattered bbq shelters and open fire pits are available to use but individual fire pits are not positioned on each site. Laundry is clean, new, large and cheap at $4/load for washer or dryer. Bathrooms are large, modern and clean with a timer for hot water.Sites with power and water cost $20/night, unpowered $15.Auburn Vale Road is fully sealed to the
camp ground. There is a
dump point available near the amenities as
well as
bins and recycling. A new kiosk offers good coffee and food along with
views from the top.
