The Stuart Highway crosses the
Finke River here. The
Finke River is one of the world's oldest watercourses and flows south for 650km from the MacDonald Range to be lost in the sands of the
Simpson Desert. Over many millions of years the river and its tributaries have carved out the rugged landscapes that it passes through.
The Western Aranda name for the
Finke River is Tjoritja urlpaya, however it is known as Lhere pirnte south of
Hermannsburg.
There is a small
rest area to the north of this crossing on the eastern side of the highway. See Nearby Listings for details.
