Patience
Well was discovered by explorer David
Carnegie on 8 September 1896. He had found it in use by natives who had it dug down to 15 feet. It was an underground
rock hole with bedrock and mud on one side.
Godfrey Massie, one of Carnegies companions was in the
well when a section of the
well caved in and he nearly lost his life.
Carnegie writes, "I never saw a man come quicker out of a hole".
Carnegie stayed at the
well until 11 September 1896 and named it "Patience Well" due to the trouble they had procuring water from it.
Patience
Well was re-discovered on 6th July 2008 by Alan McCall of
Perth.
