This 4WD
campsite is located within the Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park (CYPAL) and is jointly managed by the Northern Kuuku Ya'u Kanthanampu Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC Land Trust and the Queensland Government. Bookings are required with 25 numbered, designated sites suitable for tents or camper trailers on sand. Use the website to book online.
No generators. Limited mobile coverage. Campfires allowed in existing fireplaces.
Accessible via the Peninsula Developmental Road (PDR) - turn off onto
Portland Roads and drive 83km along
well formed gravel road to the park entrance.
Or via the
Frenchmans Track - turn off the Telegraph Road onto
Frenchmans Track and drive 52km to the
intersection with Portlands Roads, then left onto Portlands Rd, and travel 13km to the park entrance.
Frenchmans Track requires a
snorkel and is a challenging and unpredictable 4WD track.
Best fishing is South along
the beach at the creek mouth - beware of the tides cutting off
the beach route. There is a spring
water tank for people to use at
Portland Roads just up the road. It is mostly for people passing in yachts since
Portland Roads is on the main shipping lane to Torres Strait.
