Built between 1879 – 1881, this single story brick gaol with bluestone trim was designed by colonial architect James Barnett. The bricks were made from local clay and the bluestone was from Wales, was transported from Malmsbury in Victoria. The gaol was used until its closure in 1927 and today is used is a major tourist attraction.
