Wedge Island is a coastal settlement between
Lancelin and
Cervantes located 160 kilometres north of
Perth and is the site of about 360
shacks used as holiday homes to many
Perth families. The area represents coastal sand dunes and bush land with beaches accessible to vehicles.
Wedge used to be quite difficult to reach but has recently been 'opened up' by the advent of the new Indian Ocean Drive road.
The beach is hard but should be accessed by 4WD vehicles only. Wedge Island is visited by numerous four wheel drive tour buses from the city showing visitors the some of the best coastal stretches of WA.
Like
Grey to the north, Wedge was slated to become a managed recreational site (see
http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/pdf/nature/management/nambung_np_amend_11-03.pdf) but appears to have successfully the State government plans.
