Free camp area by the Neil Turner Weir on the Maranoa River, near
Mitchell.
Local authorities put some effort into making the area attractive for campers. There are regularly serviced
toilets, lit at night, and an enclosed area that is kept mowed and contains picnic tables and barbeques.
There is space for a large number of vehicles, with no size limit, in an area that stretches along the river bank. Access is easy on a good quality gravel road that runs the length of the
camping area and turns off the highway just west of the town. The turn is clearly marked.
