The weir is a concrete gravity structure on Mowamba River at the
Jindabyne to
Dalgety Road crossing. Located 10km along a tar road from
Jindabyne. As part of the construction of the
Jindabyne dam project in 1967, the weir and a 5.7 km long buried aqueduct began diverting the Mowamba's flow into
Lake Jindabyne. From here it would be lifted by the
Jindabyne Pumping Station and fed into
Geehi Res. Political events saw water from Aug 02 to Feb 06 spilling over the weir to flow into the Snowy below the
dam restoring 6% of natural flow. Since 2009 Mowamba diversions have resumed and water can return to the Snowy through a mini hydro power station. The aim is to restore 28% of natural flow with 21% achieved to date.
