Lake McDermott is a large freshwater lake. It was first described by Lt
John Septumus Roe, Surveyor General of the Swan Colony on an expedition through the region in 1836 when he wrote: the lakes forms a playa system, which is a number of lakes that have differing levels of salinity. This system of lakes is unique within the Wheatbelt.
Lake McDermott is the centre of the catchment in the Shire of Mr Marshall and is used for
recreation. The reserve has previously been used for gypsum mining and Broom bush collection.
There is an established
picnic area along the shores, some walks, and
free camping is permitted. See Nearby
Places for the
campsite listing.
