Corni Paroo is a remote
campsite at the northern end of
Currawinya National Park, for which the current overnight camping fee is $5.45/person/night (Oct 2013). All usual NP rules apply, but campfires (subject to fire bans) are allowed if you supply your own wood. Other than
toilets in the Old
Caiwarro Homestead Ruins site (near the Information Shed), there are no facilities whatsoever, and it's something like a 30km SW dusty Dowling Track to showers and the
Ranger Base near
Ourimperee Waterhole.
Ranger advised only one tag is needed irrespective of where one camps in
Currawinya NP.
Corni Paroo
Waterhole camping area can be reached by 4WD vehicle, off-road camper trailers, off-road caravans and small off-road motorhomes and buses in dry weather only.
The area offers shady areas beside turbid, permanent waterholes along the Paroo River, where you can go swimming, fishing, canoeing, birdwatching and bushwalking.
Camp sites are open areas without separately defined sites. Generators are prohibited. Open fires are allowed (except when fire bans apply). Bring your own untreated, clean mill off-cuts (i.e. No screws, nails or bolts) for firewood or better still, use a fuel stove. Local water is NOT suitable for drinking. Bring rubbish bags, and take all recyclables and rubbish with you when you leave.
Bins are not provided. There is no mobile phone coverage and visitors must self-register and pay before arriving at
camp. Pay by phone, online or at any of the many over the counter Qld NP outlets. See website for all details.
