Lawn Hill National Park (Boodjamulla) is situated approximately 400km north-west of
Mount Isa and 220km south-west of
Burketown. This million-year-old
gorge is a true oasis surrounded by the barren rocky features usually associated with this deserted area of Queensland and is and operated by National Parks rangers. This 282 000 hectare park stretches from
the gorge, west to the Northern Territory border, south to the world
heritage listed
Riversleigh fossil fields and north to
Bowthorn Station. There is a
camping area with
toilets and showers situated adjacent to
Lawn Hill Creek, although a camping permit needs to be purchased and a booking made in writing to
ranger-in-charge prior to visiting the park. Minor supplies are available at Adel's Grove which is located 10kms from the park. Fuel can be obtained from
Gregory Downs Hotel situated 100km east of the park.
