The ancient old-growth forests of this park cling to the edge of the Mummel Gulf, part of the Great Escarpment, which drops from 1450 metres down to 470 metres. The site of protests against continued logging in the early 1990s, the park protects the threatened spotted-tailed quoll, koala, yellow-bellied glider and sooty, powerful and masked owls. There's a
picnic area and car-based camping at New Country Swamp. Two short walks from the
campground, horse yards and horse trails.Access 50 km south-east of
Walcha on the unsealed Enfield Road. Mummel Road allows access through from Oxley Highway to
Nowendoc on Thunderbolts Way along unsealed forest gravel road. Be cautious if driving after or during rain as the area can become slippery when wet.See separate listings for specific points of interest and the
New Country Swamp campground.
