This site, which in 1998 was the first to be returned to its traditional Aboriginal owners, contains one of the best collections of Aboriginal
rock art in NSW.
Entry is by
Mutawintji Local Aboriginal Land Council guided tour, leaving the
Mutawintji Visitor Centre at 10 am daily. Contact the
Broken Hill Tourist Information Centre (08 8088 9703) for information on commercial tour operators with access to the site.
Walking tracks are of medium grade and unsuitable for wheelchairs.
Access is about 130 km north-east of
Broken Hill; 51km north of
Broken Hill on the Silver City Hwy turn east onto the
Broken Hill-
White Cliffs Rd, also called
Mutawintji Rd. After 63km, take the signposted Waterbag Rd and follow the signs into the park, about another 15km. In wet weather the unsealed roads close, so
check on conditions before travelling.
