Ardath is a small town located in the Wheatbelt 20km south of the town of
Bruce Rock. It was built to serve the
Corrigin to
Bruce Rock railway, and originally named Kerkenin in April 1914. However, confusion with Kukerin saw its name changed to Ardath, after the name of a prophet in the apocryphal 2 Esdras.
During World War II, the location of an ammunition depot, with 250 personnel in close proximity to Ardath, made the years of 1943, 44 and 45 very busy, as
well as the post war years of 1946.
These days, Ardath is a very quiet place but the pub is still operating and running meals, accommodation, a has a great venue for a private party in its quirky beergarden. The hotel starred in a television commercial for Swan Draught beer.
