Mount Worsnop is a flat, table top mesa situated in the Sutherland Ranges of Western Australia. The remote
Hunt Oil Road passes within a kilometre of the mount as it winds its way past Lake Gillen and heads north to Mount Allot. The mount provides an excellent view of the surrounding ranges and countryside. Several Kilometres to the north are the remains of the Hunt Oil
Camp in the lee of Mt Allot as
well as the
Alexander Spring, a semi permanent
water hole that saved the life of explorer Alexander
Forrest, and his brothers expedition in 1874. Wildlife and in particular camels, are abundant in the surrounding country.
July 15th, 1974. Rested at
Alexander Spring. Went for a walk to a flat-topped
hill about South-South-East 50 chains from
camp, which I have since named
Mount Allott, and placed a cairn on it; another
hill close by I named Mount Worsnop, after respectively the Mayor and Town Clerk of
Adelaide.
