Ebden is a locality in north east Victoria, Australia on the banks of the
Mitta Mitta arm of Lake Hume. The locality is in the City of Wodonga local government area, 337 kilometres north east of the state capital,
Melbourne. At the 2016 census, Ebden had a
population of 136.
Ebden is named after Charles Hotson Ebden (1811 – 28 October 1867) who was an early Australian pastoralist in the area, a politician, and at various times a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, the Victorian Legislative Council and the Victorian Legislative Assembly.
Explorers Hume and Hovell crossed the
Mitta Mitta River in this vicinity in November 1824 on their exploratory journey to Port Phillip Bay (Hume & Hovell Memorial Edben).
