At 180 m this is the highest earth and rockfill
dam in Australia. Drive across the
dam crest to enjoy spectacular
views. A 180 MW hydroelectric power station at the
dam base has no public access. It produces peak load power for AGL. The cascade spillway is on the left bank. It begins at the 92 m long concrete spillway crest which directs any overflow down a
chute and onto the top of a series of steps and benches cut into the bedrock. The water
cascades over these to once again flow in the channel of the
Mitta Mitta River.
