Loch Ard
Gorge is arguably every bit as large a tourist attraction as its neighbour, The Twelve Apostles and certainly more historical. It is situated just a few kilometres east of the tourist town of Port Campbell on the Great Ocean Road.
It is a geologically dramatic area with vertical cliffs, inlets from the ocean and secluded surf beaches accessed by flights of stairs. Walking paths reach to the coast and provide great
views of the area.
The gorge is named for the clipper ship
Loch Ard which foundered near the mouth of
the gorge with the loss of all except two. A
young crew member and a
young female passenger escaped the shipwreck via
Loch Ard
Gorge. Go to
