Dam there were many farms along the banks of the Barron River and its numerous tributaries.The township of Kulara grew around the rail station on the
Tolga -
Millaa Millaa line that serviced ine, local timber and dairy industries,
Danbulla families worked at the sawmill or had farms where they grew corn for their pigs and dairy cattle. The area had been opened up for timber cutting around WWl.Kulara and Danbulla had post and telegraph
services. a school and hall. Kulara also had a store and hotel. Danbulla School was moved from the present School Point
Camping area but was later burnt down.Army activity was prolific through this area from 1942-1944.The pine plantations along the scenic Danbulla
Tourist Drive were planted on the farms which had been resumed when Tinaroo
Dam was completed in 1958.All that remains of these farms and townships are fire
places. house stumps, concrete slabs. fences. bits of rusted metal, bridges, roads and railway lines which see daylight when the waters of Tinaroo
Dam recede.
