Coles Bay is located on the western side of the Freycinet Peninsula, overlooking the northern part of Oyster Bay. It also overlooks the dramatic
granite northern ranges of the peninsula. This is a fishing village that has expanded to handle the growth of tourist numbers who visit to enjoy the wonders of the
Freycinet National Park. The town has a permanent
population of about 350 that increases significantly at holiday time.
Coles bay is the gateway to the peninsula and provides access to its
walking tracks and the drive to the scenic heights of
Cape Tourville and its
lighthouse.
The wharf provides facilities for boat owners and fishermen but is also the location of the water borne tours of
Wineglass Bay and the islands to the south of the peninsula.
