Founded in 1883, Rosebery was named after Tom MacDonald’s company – The Rosebery Gold Mining Company. Today this small mining town, surrounded by rainforest and waterfalls, is
home to around 1500 people with the Pasminco
mine being one of the big producers in Tasmania. The area surrounding Rosebery has some of the most ancient rainforests systems in the world and is
home to some unique flora and the oldest huon pine tree known to man. Tours of the rainforest and wilderness are available and fishing is superb in the lakes in the area.
Banking facilities are available at the
Post Office and at limited times at the newsagency, - the latter has an ATM. The bread
shop, cafes and
supermarket will ensure that you have everything you need in the food and grocery line. The Rosebery hardware store (Mon - Fri) has a large selection of goods.
A small hospital operates in the town to look after medical needs. There is also an Internet Access Centre, a BP service station, Trout Guiding Tours, Pizza Restaurant, Milk Bar & Takeaway, the pub and a couple of guest houses/lodges along with the caravan park.
