The main beach between
Bell Point and
Point Sinclair is known as both Cantaby Beach (after the backing sandhills) and as
Shelly Beach.
The 19km long beach features relatively coarse brown shelly sands on the eastern end, and fine white carbonate sands on the western end. There is 4WD access to
Shelly Beach, which is a popular swimming and surfing spot. The Cantaby Sandhills, which extend up to 4km inland, back the entire beach.
Shelly Beach offers the best location for surf swimming on the whole of
Point Sinclair, however a safer (and calmer option) is in the swimming net at
Port Le Hunte.
